The Hidden Cost of CE Certification
What Most Brands Don’t Know
If you’re selling motorcycle gloves in the EU, UK, or markets following European standards, your products must meet EN 13594:2015 (gloves) or EN 17092 (jackets). This isn’t optional — it’s law under EU Regulation 2016/425 (PPE Directive).
But here’s what catches brands off-guard: certification has two distinct costs.
Part 1: Laboratory Testing
Your gloves/jackets are physically tested by an accredited Notified Body (impact protection, abrasion resistance, seam strength, etc.).
Cost: €200-€400 per article (varies by protection level and lab)
Part 2: Technical File Preparation
Before the lab will test your products, you need a complete technical file: material certifications, seam samples, construction details, quality procedures, supplier declarations, and more.
Cost: €800-€1,500 per article via CE agencies
For a typical 5-article glove collection:
Lab testing: €1,500-€2,000
Agency fees: €4,000-€7,500
Total: €5,500-€9,500
For startups ordering 500 pairs total, this is a deal breaker.

Why the Structure Matters (and Why We Do It This Way)
Why Certification Must Be in Your Name
The CE certificate is issued to the legal entity (your company), not the manufacturer. If Sixons paid for certification and put it in our name, you couldn’t legally use it. You’d have to re-certify everything yourself later.
Bottom line: Certification in your name protects you and gives you full ownership of the file.
Why Design Lock Matters
If you change your logo placement, add a feature, or modify materials AFTER certification, the certificate becomes invalid. You’d waste money certifying a design that isn’t final.
Our approach: We develop gloves to be certifiable from day one. When your design is 100% locked, THEN you send samples to the lab for testing.
This Protects You From:
❌ Expensive certificate re-issuance
❌ Wasted certification costs on prototype designs
❌ Being locked into a supplier who “owns” your certification
❌ Having to re-certify if you make minor changes

Every Sixons-prepared file passed lab review
“We were quoted €6,500 by a CE agency for our 4-glove collection. Sixons prepared everything for us — we only paid the lab €1,200. Saved us over €5,000 and the quality of the file was better than what the agency would have done.”
